How Much Does It Cost to Open My Car Door?

It's one of the first things we ask ourselves when we realize we've locked ourselves out of our car.

Auto lockout services can cost between $60 to $85 for a locksmith to open a locked car with the average being $75. To open a trunk, you can expect the range to be around $85. If we have to make new car keys, you can anticipate the cost to run from $65 to $145. Sometimes, the ignition needs to be fixed, and that can increase the cost up to $120-$250.

If you have a key jammed in the ignition, or if it's broken off in the ignition, do not try to remove it by yourself or you may incur more damage which results in more cost. If you have a key, but another is jammed in the ignition, the jammed key can be removed from between $80-$140. However, if a new key is needed, an auto locksmith is able to cut a key right there on the spot, or program a new transponder key in the event that the only key you have is locked in your vehicle.
